PFF Preview: 49ers @ Saints, Week 10

2014-Prev-WK10-SF@NOThe 49ers and their offense led by Colin Kaepernick will head into the Superdome to take on the New Orleans Saints and their hot pass rush spearheaded by Junior Gallette.

Through nine weeks this season Kaepernick rates as PFF’s fourth best quarterback among those with 225 drop-backs with a PFF QB Rating of 95.7. He also ranks fourth with his Accuracy Percentage of 76.9% and is tied for sixth in Accuracy Percentage under Pressure. He’ll have his hands full as the most sacked quarterback in the league with Gallette chasing him. Gallette has recorded the highest Pass Rushing Productivity number of all 4-3 defensive ends over the past three weeks.

The 49ers seem to have picked a gem, rookie Chris Borland posted some absurd statistics last week. Rated the fourth best overall inside linebacker with a +3.3 mark, graded +3.5 against the run, and lead all inside linebackers in tackles and stops with 17 and 12. It will be a challenge tackling Mark Ingram who since coming off injury in Week 7 has forced 15 missed tackles when running the ball and 17 total missed tackles, which are both league bests among running backs in the league in that time.

Here are three more notable numbers for each side:

San Francisco 49ers

Perrish Cox – Ranks 11th among cornerbacks with 275 snaps in coverage grade: has only given up one touchdown with four interceptions, 12.8 Cover Snaps Per Reception, and the third best NFL Rating when targeted 42.3.

Anquan Boldin – Boasts a 109.8 WR Rating when targeted which is good for 12th in the league among wide receivers with at least 50 targets.

Aaron Lynch – The rookie outside linebacker has the second most pressures among rookie 3-4 outside linebackers with 19, behind only Khalil Mack, with all of his 140 rushes coming on the left side except for one snap.

New Orleans Saints

Terron Armstead – The second year left tackle has made strides this year since allowing seven pressures with three being sacks in only 84 snaps in 2013. This season he has only allowed 15 pressures, with one being a sack, in 303 snaps.

Rafael Bush – Since starting for Jairus Byrd in Week 5 Bush has been the third rated safety in coverage giving up only 3 receptions when targeted 12 times.

Curtis Lofton – Currently stands fourth among inside linebackers with 170 snaps in Run Stop Percentage and is tie with D’Qwell Jackson for 5th in stops among all inside linebackers.
