PFF Pick’em: Week 2

2014-PickemHitting on 12 of 16 to open the year pushed Khaled out in front of the pack and earned the rest of us an earful, but we’re back looking for redemption in Week 2.

We did manage to collect six wins from our seven consensus picks last week, only Buffalo doing us in with their road win in Chicago. This time around we’ve got another seven winners that we’ve agreed upon (TEN, DET, TB, SEA, GB, DEN, SF) and four more ‘lone wolf’ teams that have a single dissenter taking their side (BUF, JAX, CLE, MIN).

Any of those picks way off the mark? Let us know below.

Two weeks in and the panthers have been picked 1 time out of 16 opportunities. Not saying this won’t be a tough game but at worst playing in Carolina it’s a 50-50 proposition. Hope you guys missed this one :)

    • Joe

I wouldn’t read much into the number of people picking a team. If everyone thought the opposition was slightly favored, you might reasonably expect them all to pick the panthers to lose even if they’d all agree that the panther actually have a decent shot to win.

      • CMG8462

True, but when Vegas — who have models that are the best on the planet — have Carolina as -2.5/-3 pt favorites you’d expect at worst a 50% chance the panthers win, more likely something higher like 55%+ — yet the PFF clean sweep. Fortunately, everyone but Ben picked TB last week and that was before Cam was ruled out and Carolina won (Vegas had the line at -1 favoring TB) so regardless of who is picking/how great vegas is at predicting NFL football is a crazy and random game.. Go Panthers!

  • Mnstorm99

    Split on Giants/Cards surprises me.
    No chance for Chi-town?
Hopefully Nate is right about the Pats/Vike game :)

    • [email protected]

Chicago has a chance, but SF is rightly favored. I think this is going to be a down year for SF but they are still better than Chicago right now.

  • Mnstorm99

Split on the Cards game??? They should kill the Giants…
No chance for the Bears this week?
Gordon seems to have something against the Saints.

Go Vikes, hopefully you are right Nate…

  • Kent Lee Platte

Surprised to see so much PFF support for the Lions over Carolina.

    • Eric O. Nelson, III

      Its warranted.

      • Barron Buc

        Or not

  • JT

You guys seriously have something against the Panthers….playing at home on top of that. Apparently the defense didn’t prove they can keep pretty much any offense in check especially at home.

    • Eric O. Nelson, III

The lions offense is not just any offense. They are elite. This is not tb you are playing.

      • corners

Lions have had that elite offense for years now, and what do they have to show for it? The bone heads drafted another te when they had one and need help elsewhere. Its wierd.

      • JT

Oh yeah….not one offense cracked 20 points against them at home last year which included the Falcons, Saints, Pats, Hawks, and pretty much the same giant team Detriot just faced in Detroit lost 38-0 in Carolina.

      • Nice try

Talk now, where is that elite offense , getting held to 7 points and no td for megatron? You mistook the word elite, because to be elite you have to have actual results.

      • CMG8462

Giants make all offenses look Elite :) — Carolina was opportunistic once again, Detroit still has a scary offense.

  • Guest

When the Vikings win, will anyone give them credit? Or will they just ask what’s wrong with the Patriots? I just want to make sure that the win is in the proper perspective ahead of time. No excuses. Everyone’s picking New England, right? Just remember that around this time next week.

    • Purple fan

I’m thinkin’ the Vikes will put more pressure on Brady than Miami did! I’m a Ravens fan, too, and if you’ve seen what the Ravens have done to beat the Pats in the past it’s pressure on Brady… too many teams let him stand around surveying his targets for too long. Not happenin’ in Minny–Brady is about to meet Mr. Anthony Barr (and others!)!

      • corners

why do you think the Vikes will put more pressure on Brady than Miami did?Because historically very few teams have eben done it. Looking at the dolphins front, i get why it happened. Just because you think the Vikings are a better team than miami means nothing in YOUR patriots game.I wouldnt take it to your head, your rb is out

    • SeattleSteve

ugh! – viking fans whine even if they win and they wonder why everyone thinks they’re insufferable.

    • Eric O. Nelson, III

Not a chance. Without Peterson? Do you really believe cassel can beat Brady? Put the crack pipe down.

  • Matt Skains

I’m surprised to see so many Raiders picks.

  • [email protected]

The one i think is most wrong is the Giants over the Cardinals. I dont see what the Giants have done recently for anyone to have any faith in them whatsoever and the Cardinals are a quality team.

  • Andrew

What’s the reasoning behind all the raider picks?

    • [email protected]

      Texans are bad too.

  • aeneas1

    wow, not a great showing…

  • Panthers

Its time to retire the Pick’em page.

    • [email protected]

I think its very instructive that a study of statistics does not teach you anything about sports.

  • Marty

I’m really trying to understand how the majority picked Oakland to win.
