PFF Pick’em: Week 14

2014-PickemThe race to chase down Gordon and his season-long lead took a hit last week as his 11 correct calls weren’t matched, much less exceeded, by any of the nearest hangers on. Second place Ben dropped two games further from the lead, as did Steve and Rick in third and fourth, respectively. Khaled, however, took the opportunity to sneak back into the picture as his 13 wins got him to within striking distance of that second group. His efforts highlighted by the lone-wolf pick of New Orleans coming through over Pittsburgh.

Only four consensus picks last week and an underwhelming split as the Ravens and Giants fell short. This week we’ve got six: NO, MIN, DET, DEN, SF and GB.

At this point, Gordon is so far ahead that the only way to catch up is for the competitors to choose teams that he would not. If a team has a 45% chance of winning, Sam and Nathan should take it because then they at least have a chance to catch up. Being strategic based on the need to catch up or stay ahead skews the board. By the same token, Gordon is so far ahead that at this point of the season he should only be making safe bets, for instance if Atlanta wins he obviously will not lose anything on his lead. He should make the GB bet even if he thinks ATL will win.

They should just look up the line on the internet and pick the favored team. 62% straight up is not impressive. Vegas would eat these chumps alive.

  • AKjester

Hmm, looking at the actual picks, Gordon clearly didn’t follow a keep it safe strategy and Neil definitely didn’t go bold. Perhaps their picks are made independent of a hope of beating the others on the analysis team.

  • Football

    Let’s go Bears

  • Brendon

I have a fanasty football question for all of you. I have Julio Jones, Branden lafeal, Kenny stills, Stedman bailey, Charles johnson. Which 3 do you start. Also would you start Justin Forsett or Johnathan Stewart. Thank you, must win this week to make playoffs.

    • [email protected]

Why do you have Stedman Bailey and Charles Johnson? Forsett or Stewart are both solid picks this week. If i had to win i’d probably go with Forsett just because i’m afraid Stewart will get injured. If you could guarantee me he wouldn’t i’d go with Stewart.

      • Brendon

I could get rid of charles but everywhere I have read says to start bailey, jes projected high against a poor redskin secondary and he’s now rams #1 reciever

        • [email protected]

Ahh, no you’re right. How deep is your league? Neither of those guys are owned in mine.

          • Brendon

I can start 3 receivers no flex options. 12 teams in my league. I was thinking lefell because the chargers do a great job defending against TE so Brady will probably feed him the ball more. Stills is playing against carolina. And its not like I’m not going to start Julio especially from what he did last week against an awesome cardinals secondary. So it’s between stills and bailey.

          • [email protected]

Yeah i think Lafell and Jones are no brainers. I guess i’d go with Bailey i just don’t trust Stills.

          • Brendon

OK thanks. I’m gonna start Stewart over forsett. Forsett has knee soreness didn’t practice yesterday or today. Stewart is 4th in league in YAC. And Williams has a broken middle finger so stewart should get a lot of touches against a terrible saints run defense. Arian Foster is my other back I have to start him lol.

          • [email protected]

Thats not what it says on ESPN. It says that its an ankle and the RB coach is quoted as saying its just regular soreness. I’m starting Stewart too, but if i had Forsett i’d probably start him instead. Jonathan Stewart is just made out of glass, i’d be worried about him pulling something in the first quarter. If he could stay in the lineup he’d be a top 10 back in the NFL, he’s as good as anyone.

          • [email protected]

How’d you do? This was my game, granted in a free espn league so not very hard.

          • Brendon

I’m screwed lol, bailey, lafell, and Stills all got less than 5 points. Running backs did good. I should of started Jared cook. I still have Julio, my defense and kicker but need to score 40 plus points. So I won’t win but if Eddie Lacy gets less that 19.34 points tonight I will make the playoffs bc the 3 people under me will have all loss and that will get me into the playoffs. So it all comes down to MNF

          • [email protected]

I’d hate your league, receivers are so hit and miss.

    • brillodog

      start forsett

    • FANTASY CHAMP

100% Forsett! Stewart continues for some unknown reason to be hyped way above his actual production (something like two 100-yard games in his last 54!). Jones and Still are MUST starts. Then it’s between LaFell and Bailey — a tossup but I would go with Bailey this week.

      • Brendon

How about for defense green bay, chiefs or buffalo this week?

      • [email protected]

        Good advice ‘fantasy champ’.

  • Kathleen Berg

I have Rivers and Tannehill…I keep getting conflicting reports about who I should play, just like last week. So last week I played Tannehill and Rivers outscored him by 13 points. This week I want to go with my gut and play Rivers. Comments?

    • Brendon

Start Phillip Rivers hes 30-4 in the month of Dec. And he’s playing at home.

      • http://www.thefriendshipscramble.org/ Kathleen Berg

        Thanks Brendon! :)

  • Stephen Gunn

Jordan Mathews or Stedman Bailey. Mathews home against Seahawks and Bailey away at Washington. Most say Mathews, a few say Stedman. Need one to pull through to have legitimate chance to beat my opponent who all being equal had a great game by Bennett last Thursday (exceeded expectations).
