Performance Report – Week 7

Russell WilsonIn this weekly column we’ll take a look at the top performer at each position. The goal isn’t to just analyze the players individually but to identify variables that make up these top performances so we can more accurately project them in the future.

Quarterback – Russell Wilson SEA

His Line:  23-37 313 yards 2 TDs, 106 yards 1 TD rushing, aDOT= 8.0, PFF Grade= -0.2

If you didn’t actually look up the stats this week you may have expected Peyton Manning to top the list of quarterbacks. While “The Sheriff” came in at number two after his record-breaking performance it was one of the young guns that topped the list.

The Seahawks may be struggling to win football games as compared to a year ago but that actually turned in to a good thing for Wilson’s fantasy owners this past week. It’s the second week in a row we’ve seen a signal caller who rushed for over 100 yards top the list. In fact, Wilson’s rushing line in week 7 was almost identical to Cam Newton’s in week 6.

That’s where the problem lies. Quarterbacks who have the potential to post impressive numbers in the run game have tons of upside. But if you’re looking for consistency at the position guys like Wilson and Newton are the wrong players to target. Newton finished 19th this week with 41 yards on the ground.
