Every week there are a few matchups that catch my attention. I use PFF’s advanced statistics to give an in-depth look at possible fantasy starters and duds. This week I focus on four matchups that I think could provide interesting results. I suggest benching a hot veteran and starting a rookie playing in just his fourth NFL game.
Brandon LaFell vs. Chris Harris Jr.
Brandon LaFell has emerged as quarterbacks Tom Brady’s favorite wide receiver target. Lafell has been fantastic of late posting 276 yards and three touchdowns over his last three games. Brady is 19-22 while targeting him over the stretch. Not only is LaFell getting great production, he is also not dropping any passes. He has been targeted 47 times this year and has dropped just one ball.
I can’t say enough good things about Chris Harris Jr. He is getting almost no attention from the national media despite playing better than any other cornerback in the league. Over the last four games quarterbacks are 7-21 for 58 yards and an interception while targeting Harris Jr. He has yet to allow more than 40 yards or four catches in a single game. Teammate Aqib Talib might get all the press, but Harris Jr. is far more valuable to his team through seven games.
Bottom Line: I am recommending a benching of Lafell this week. I think Lafell gets held to under 50 yards and five catches. Touchdowns are always hard to predict but Harris Jr. is yet to allow one. LaFell may be able to salvage an ordinary day by grabbing a short touchdown, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
