Every week there are a few matchups that catch my attention. I use PFF’s advanced statistics to give an in-depth look at possible fantasy starters and duds. This week I focus on four matchups that I think could provide interesting results. I suggest the benching of two receivers that are already over 1,000 yards for the season, and suggest starting two that aren’t quite there yet.
Alshon Jeffery vs. Brandon Carr
Alshon Jeffery is starting to heat up at the right time. Over his last five games Jeffery is averaging 7-70-1 with more than ten targets per game. With wide receiver Brandon Marshall looking like a shell of his formal self, Jeffery has stepped up as quarterback Jay Cutler’s favorite target. Jeffery is not only putting up solid fantasy numbers, he also has only one drop in his last five games. If you are leaving him on your bench this week you better have two elite receivers in his place.
Brandon Carr is having another rough year in Dallas. His last three games have been awful allowing over 90 yards per game on average. Carr has also struggled keeping receivers out of the end zone allowing three touchdowns in his last six games. Quarterbacks have eclipsed a passer rating of over 100 eight times this season while targeting Carr. With cornerback Orlando Scandrick playing well for the Cowboys teams are starting to pick on Carr. He has a really tough matchup this week facing the red hot Jeffery.
Bottom Line: It is really hard to justify benching Jeffery this week. He is getting hot at the perfect time and has a very favorable matchup. This should be a high scoring game and Jeffery should benefit from that. I believe Jeffery will flirt with 100 yards and get plenty of looks in the end zone.
