WR-CB Matchups - Week 15
Every week there are a few matchups that catch my attention. I use PFF’s advanced statistics to give an in-depth look at possible fantasy starters and duds. This week I focus on four matchups that I think could provide interesting results. I suggest starting a receiver who had less than ten receiving yards last week, and a rookie who is without his starting quarterback. Good luck in your playoffs!
DeAndre Hopkins vs. Vontae Davis
For the second straight week DeAndre Hopkins finds himself in my article for the wrong reasons. Hopkins again draws a bad matchup against the Colts Vontae Davis. In Hopkins first game against the Colts he was targeted twice for just 12 yards. Hopkins is a phenomenal talent but he is not “matchup proof”. Hopkins has had a breakout season so I understand that he is a tough player to bench. If you have any other serviceable option, you should probably use it.
No other cornerback has played better than Davis. He missed last week due to a concussion, but all signs point to him being ready against the Texans. Davis has held receivers to under 50 yards for six straight weeks and he has yet to allow a touchdown this season. Coincidentally his worst game this season came against the Texans where he allowed four catches and 74 yards. It marks the only time this year he allowed over 50 yards. I expect him to spend more time on Hopkins this week.
Bottom Line: You have to keep an eye on the status of Davis. If he cannot play than Hopkins becomes a decent start. If Davis is starting I highly recommend you leave Hopkins on your bench. Davis was limited in practice on Wednesday and is still yet to be cleared. You’re going to have to monitor this matchup closely.
