Week 2 Football Fun Facts
-Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but J.J. Watt is great. In week 2 Watt had two sacks, five solo tackles, and two passes defended. But there’s something else in play in Houston, the “Watt Effect.” Due to the constant attention that Watt and his fellow lineman get, Brian Cushing was able to glow in the “Wattage.” Cushing recorded two sacks of his own as well as 11 solo tackles and four tackles for loss. Eight of those 11 tackles were basically unblocked. “Wattage.”
-RT Luke Joeckel was selected second overall by the Jaguars in the 2013 draft. The winner of the 2012 Outland Trophy and a consensus All-American left tackle at Texas A&M, he was switched to the right side in Jacksonville due to the presence of Eugene Monroe. In two games Joeckel has already given up two sacks, five quarterback hurries and committed two false start penalties. Possessing a negative overall PFF grade, Joeckel (-1.8) has actually graded higher than Monroe (-4.8) has. While you can’t put all of the blame on the offensive line, Jacksonville quarterbacks have been sacked 11 times in their first two games. Blaine Gabbert has been sacked six times while Chad Henne has hit the turf five times. Seattle is next up to go against the Jacksonville line.
