Every Tuesday I will be bringing you the NFL players who have somehow flown under the fantasy radar and are owned in far too few leagues given their production and/or ceiling. Injuries and byes are inevitable, too.
With the first game of the week a mere 48 hours away, here are some players that are on quite a few waiver wires out there that simply shouldn’t be.
Quarterback
Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles (Yahoo 14% owned; ESPN 2.6%) – 12% FAAB
The Eagles have talent, and it is possible that Foles is the best bet to make the most of it. In just over six quarters of action, the second year quarterback has completed 68% of his passes for five touchdowns and no interceptions. Those are impressive numbers, but I’m picking him up based on his high usage rate (56 pass attempts, more throws per quarter than Tony Romo) and willingness to get LeSean McCoy involved in the pass game (eight catches in past two weeks after catching seven passes in the first four weeks).
The Eagles don’t face a single strong pass defense over the next five weeks (Cowboys, Giants, Raiders, Packers, and Redskins), so if Chip Kelly gives him the nod, Foles could produce top 15 numbers over the next month or so.
T.J. Yates, Houston Texans (Yahoo 1% owned; ESPN 0.1%) – 3% FAAB
This add is a speculative one as the Texans have yet to rule out Matt Schaub and they face a stingy Chiefs defense this week, but Yates seems to Houston QB worth owning. After they face Kansas City, the Texans then have a bye week and a handful of beatable defenses (Colts, Cardinals, Raiders, and Jaguars twice). He’s not a great long term fantasy solution, but for Peyton Manning, Colin Kaepernick, Tony Romo, or Russell Wilson owners, he may be a viable bye week replacement should you be without one.
