The Snap Report – Playoffs: Wildcard Round

The weekly offensive snap report is a summary of the participation data for fantasy relevant skill position players. Although the focus is snaps, we also cover other important categories like pass routes and designed runs.

Quarterback

Joe Webb (62 snaps) got the surprise start in place of Christian Ponder. Webb had flashed some potential in 2010 and 2011, but he did not endear himself to dynasty league owners with his performance against Green Bay. He did tally 68 yards rushing (4 designed runs, 3 scrambles), although was ineffective through the air – completing just 37 percent of his passes. His lack of production was not for a lack of trying. His average depth of throw was 13.7 yards – though that was a bit inflated as the clock was winding down but he did connect with Michael Jenkins for a nice touchdown.

Running Back

Bernard Pierce (19 snaps) saw plenty of time behind Ray Rice (34) against Indianapolis. Rice lost two fumbles which may have contributed to Pierce receiving 13 carries to his 15 on the day. Although Pierce has seen his playing time steadily increase over the last few weeks, it is more of an effort to keep Rice fresh than being a legitimate threat to his playing time. Pierce was impressive in limited duty though – he totaled 103 yards rushing, with 49 of those yards coming after contact. As luck would have it, fullback Vonta Leach vulture the 2-yard touchdown.

DuJuan Harris, come on down! Harris appears to be the next Green Bay running back to rise from obscurity to lead the team in rushing in the postseason. Harris (29 snaps) saw 17 snaps to just seven for Ryan Grant. Fullback John Kuhn did spend half of his 32 snaps at tailback, contributing a rushing and a receiving touchdown on the day. Harris led the team with 17 carries for 47 hard-earned yards.

Arian Foster (70 snaps) was on the field for all but seven offensive plays against the Bengals. Foster added 32 rushing attempts (140 yards, 1 TD) and eight receptions (on 24 pass routes) to his season totals. Dynasty league owners have to worry about his workload at this point – Foster has totaled 431 combined touches through 17 games this season.

Wide Receiver

It was a sad sight for Donald Driver to be inactive against the Vikings. His illustrious career is winding down, but it is clear he’s fifth on the depth chart and offers little assistance on special teams. James Jones (65 snaps) and Greg Jennings (49) were the primary receivers, while Jordy Nelson (19) and Randall Cobb (38) were eased back into the lineup. Nelson in particular was limited to 16 pass routes. Cobb saw only two targets on the day and clearly was not up to his normally high-level of play. None of the receivers had a particularly noteworthy fantasy day, but the offense looks ready to fire on all cylinders going into their matchup with San Francisco.

Tight End

Zach Miller (62 snaps) has quietly become a key member of the Seattle offense in recent weeks. He helped move the chains against Washington with four receptions for 48 yards on six targets. He is gaining most of his yards after the catch too. He had 31 yards after the catch and his aDOT was only 3.5 yards, very close to the line of scrimmage. Miller makes a sneaky play for the remainder of the playoffs in PPR formats.

Please note that penalty plays are removed from the snap totals and will differ from what is posted in our Premium Statistics game logs.
