The weekly offensive snap report is a summary of the participation data for fantasy relevant skill position players. Although the focus is snaps, we also cover other important categories like pass routes and designed runs.
Running Back
The Falcons had plenty of success running the football against Seattle. Michael Turner (22 snaps) had some gas left in his tank coming off the bye week – he led the team with 98 yards on 14 rushing attempts. Jacquizz Rodgers (29) maintained his status as the most used tailback for another week, adding 64 yards of his own on 10 carries. Both Turner and Rodgers averaged over 5.2 yards per carry after contact. Jason Snelling (13) caught a five-yard touchdown on nine pass routes run. He did not have a rushing attempt.
Bernard Pierce (13 snaps) aggravated a previous knee injury against Denver – limiting him to just 14 yards rushing on five attempts. That led to more work for Ray Rice (61). Rice handled a heavy workload on the ground with 30 carries for 131 yards and a touchdown, though he did not record a catch in the contest. Pierce is expected to be available versus New England this weekend.
Denver ran into some issues when Knowshon Moreno (22 snaps) was forced from the game with a knee issue. Moreno had played well of late, adding a touchdown reception against Baltimore, but his injury forced the Broncos to lean heavily on rookie Ronnie Hillman (43) and Jacob Hester (24). Hillman carried the ball 22 times for 83 yards while Hester added just 11 yards on eight carries. Moreno’s injury casts some doubt on how the depth chart will look in 2013 with Willis McGahee returning as well.
Danny Woodhead had some sleeper appeal going into the matchup with Houston, but he left the game after his first offensive snap with a thumb injury. His loss was Shane Vereen’s gain. Vereen (37) played second fiddle to Stevan Ridley (27) in the running game – though both running backs had a rushing touchdown. Vereen’s big contribution came in the passing game. He caught five of his six targets for 83 yards and two touchdowns, only one of which came in the red zone. Monitor the status of Woodhead going into the championship weekend, Vereen’s usage will be predicated on if Woodhead can see his normal heavy workload.
Wide Receiver
It is no surprise that Michael Crabtree’s (65 snaps) breakout is the result of being one of the last 49ers wide receivers left standing. Ever since Mario Manningham was lost for the season – Crabtree has played in approximately 85 percent of the team snaps rather than his typical 60 to 70 percent before. Crabtree has been the key cog in the offense too. Colin Kaepernick has targeted him 37 percent of the time in the last four games, a trend that continued with another big day against Green Bay. Crabtree caught nine of his 11 targets for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Better yet, Crabtree’s aDOT has been less than nine yards which has allowed him to make plays in space after the catch (47 YAC).
Tight End
Chase Coffman made an impressive 16-yard catch in front of Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill that almost went for a touchdown. Unfortunately, that accounted for one of Coffman’s two snaps in the game.
Rob Gronkowski (7 snaps) fractured his forearm again against Houston and has now been ruled out for the remainder of the year. With Daniel Fells inactive, Michael Hoomanawanui (50) assumed his blocking responsibilities without a single target.
