The curious case of Mike Evans

I’m not sure why, but I just cannot seem to get behind Mike Evans as a legit WR1 this year. I know that I’m in the minority, but something about him strikes me as a potential bust this year.

He was injured in the Bucs week two preseason game, and the team has announced that he will be held out the remainder of the scrimmage games. He is said to have a hamstring strain, but we do not know of which variety.

Through those two games that he did play, new to the NFL quarterback Jameis Winston targeted Evans five times, but failed to connect any of them. Now the average depth of throw was over 30 yards, which is absurdly high, but we can’t ignore that number either.

I own zero shares of Mike Evans, but still have a few drafts before the season starts where I know he will be there waiting for me in the second round. So if you want a non-objective take on Evans, this is the piece for you. Let’s find out if he’s worth a second round pick in 2015.
