Texans: Brooks expected to return from stomach illness

PFF-headlinesBrandon Brooks wasn’t on the field for Houston’s Week 6 matchup against the Colts, but rather tucked into a hospital bed due to a stomach illness.   Brooks apparently lost 12 pounds due to the illness.

Texans fans will be relieved to hear Brooks, who finished the 2013 season as a top 10 guard, is likely to return to the field this Monday night. Rookie Xavier Su’a-Filo, who had his first career start in place of Brooks, struggled last week, earning the worst grade (-4.9) of any guard in Week 6.

Brooks has stood out in pass protection this season, earning a grade of +1.9 and is the only member of Houston’s offensive line who has a ‘positive’ cumulative pass protection grade.   As a unit, Houston’s offensive line ranks 26th in Pass Blocking Efficiency (PBE) with a rating of 77.6.  Brooks has been the lone bright spot with a PBE of 98.1 (24th-ranked guard).

Given the extended time Brooks and the Texans have had to prepare for the Monday Night Football showdown with the Steelers, Brooks should be ready to pick up where he left off.
