Start Eli Manning , sit Derek Carr in Week 5

It usually takes about a quarter of the season to pass before we have a good idea of how teams are going to perform. 2015 has seen an unusually high number of injuries to key fantasy contributors to throw us off, but handicapping fantasy prospects has become a bit easier.

Undoubtedly there will be some unpredictable fantasy breakouts and we’ll see the occasional superstar flop, but for the most part, we know which players on our rosters are reliable starters, and which players it might be best to move on from.

Now that we’re moving into the second quarter of the season, here are some players that are in a good position to help us win, and others who might be better off left on the bench for Week 5.

Start

Eli Manning, Giants (vs. 49ers) – A quarter of the way through the season, Manning is off to a fine start, even considering his receiving corps has been plagued by a league-high 14 drops. Manning has tossed seven touchdowns versus one interceptions, and as our Dan Schneier points out in his Matchup Machine piece, Manning has an appealing Week 5 home matchup against a San Francisco 49ers defense that ranks 28th in pass coverage, and 30th in pass rushing. The 49ers offense is also having trouble sustaining drives, so Manning should have plenty of opportunities to pick apart that defense on primetime TV Sunday night.
