Welcome to Snaps, Pace, and Stats, which takes a macro view of emerging trends in snap totals and no-huddle usage. This year I’ll be looking at individual players in a Friday column that’s free for non-subscribers and revolves around recommended DraftKings plays.
Week 7 consisted of a pretty sideways collection of games. Jeff Fisher masqueraded as an aggressively creative coach, the fantasy tight end leaderboard resembled the free agent list in a 16-team league, and nine teams ran at least 10 more or fewer snaps than they were averaging after six weeks. An additional seven squads were at least seven snaps off of their pace. The Rams and Chargers ran 19 and 18 fewer plays than their respective norms, and the Jets snapped it 16 more times than theirs.
For prognostication sake, let’s hope things settle down and abnormal is not the new normal. There is no shortage of interesting Week 8 matchups, including six games with an over/under of at last 48 points, so let’s snap to it…
