Running Back Consistency Rankings

This is the second part of a positional consistency series utilizing the standard deviation of weekly point output from the 2012 season. This article focuses on running backs; the first article was on quarterbacks.

As I wrote in the first article of this series, fantasy owners must take into account both total outpoint and consistency when drafting their rosters and filling out their lineups. This is because fantasy football is a weekly game that is won or lost based on weekly matchups. How good is the highest scoring player at a position really if 40% of his total output comes from three games? Such a player is obviously still valuable, but is he giving you the best chance to win a championship? If you are comparing him to someone in the same tier of total points who is much more consistent on a week-to-week basis, the answer is undoubtedly no.
