ReFo: Rams @ Redskins, Week 14

2014-REFO-WK14-STL@WASWith turmoil and rumors once again surrounding Washington and their quarterback situation, they welcomed a St. Louis Rams team who were looking to win back-to-back for the first time this season.

Despite looking like the better team from the outset, St. Louis allowed Washington to stay in the game in the first half, with a series of miscues from kicker Greg Zuerlein seeing him miss an extra point and field goals of 28 and 38 yards.

In the end, though, the Rams were too much for Washington and deserved the shutout win. There were, of course, plenty of noteworthy performances from both sidelines:

St. Louis Rams – Performances of Note

Tavon Austin, WR/PR: +4.1 combined

Breakdown: A gameplan that saw the Rams get the ball in Austin's hands as much as they could worked wonders. 46 yards on the ground, 14 as a receiver, and 143 and a touchdown as a punt returner saw him the key cog in the Rams' victory.

Signature Play: Q3, 2:00 remaining. He benefit from some nice blocking on his touchdown return, but some quick moves and a good burst to the end zone were just as key in getting him there.

Robert Quinn, DE: +3.2

Breakdown: Though he hasn't hit the heights of a year ago, Quinn has still had a solid season for the Rams. He made things difficult for Trent Williams at left tackle in this one, finishing the game with two sacks, a hit and a hurry to go along with some nice work against the run.

Signature Play: Q3, 6:19 remaining. Beating Williams to the outside with ease, he got to quarterback Colt McCoy in time for a hit.

Scott Wells, C: -3.2

Breakdown: It wasn't a perfect performance by the Rams, however, with some troubles on the offensive line. Wells was the biggest culprit, struggling to deal with the interior of the Washington defensive line, allowing two hurries, with a hit nullified by penalty and a holding call on another passing play.

Signature Stat: The two pressures that weren't nullified saw him finish the game with a Pass Blocking Efficiency Rating of 94.2.

Washington Redskins – Performances of Note

Colt McCoy, QB: -4.7

Breakdown: Unlike last week, when his stats masked a poor performance, this week McCoy's struggles were plain to see. With two interceptions and a fumble, looking after the football will be job No. 1 going forward.

Signature Play: Q4, 5:25 remaining. The second of his two interceptions finally sealed the game, and any fading hope anyone had of a late comeback, with his poor throw across the middle picked off by safety T.J. McDonald.

Ryan Kerrigan, OLB: +4.5

Breakdown: The bright spots for Washington were a couple of strong performances on the defensive side of the ball. Having his best season since entering the league in 2011, Kerrigan was a tough matchup for right tackle Joe Barsksdale, finishing the game with two sacks and two hurries.

Signature Play: Q2, 6:59 remaining. Beating running back Tre Mason's attempted cut block to the inside, Kerrigan hit quarterback Shaun Hill and force the fumble.

Chris Baker, NT: +4.0

Breakdown: Kerrigan wasn't the only one who had success as a pass rusher, with Baker responsible for most of Wells' struggles. A sack and two hurries, as well as drawing a penalty were the results of his work as a pass rusher, while he added a couple of nice plays against the run.

Signature Stat: With his three pressures coming on just 11 snaps as a pass rusher, he finished the game with a Pass Rushing Productivity Rating of 22.7.

PFF Game Ball

It was tempting to give the award to a defensive player like Quinn after their second straight shutout, but with 203 total yards, Tavon Austin's big day was too much to ignore.
