While the Redskins continue to struggle as a team, two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams has once again been a bright spot despite dealing with a lingering knee injury. His run blocking has graded out as average overall so far (despite some highlight blocks), but his pass blocking remains elite.
In Week 1 Williams did have some trouble with Texans outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus (two hits and a hurry conceded in the final two minutes of the game, along with a sack earlier in the game that was negated by a defensive penalty).
Against the Eagles, Trent Cole beat him for a hit and a hurry. Seattle’s Bruce Irvin also got a hurry against him on a play where he appeared to re-injured his knee, but that’s it.
He was perfect protecting his quarterback in the other two contests, despite seeing a lot of Jason Pierre-Paul in that blowout loss, who could only get a forced holding penalty out of Williams.
Through those five games the former 2010 fourth-overall pick pass blocked 190 times and conceded only six total pressures – tied for fourth-best among tackles in our Pass Blocking Efficiency rating.
