Punter Rankings - Week 5
When the Jacksonville Jaguars selected punter Bryan Anger with their third round pick in the 2012 draft, there was quite a bit of guffawing. But when I looked at the impact Anger could potentially have on the Jaguars’ field position – and consequently increasing the likelihood that they’d score more points – it became clear that a good punter can actually be an incredibly valuable asset.
Whether the Jaguars could have gotten that incredibly valuable asset a round (or two, or three) later is a matter for debate, because all it would’ve taken was for one rival GM to value Anger similarly and waiting would have yielded disappointment. And while the early results suggest that Anger’s still got some improving to do, he’s proving to be an absolute superstar from a fantasy perspective.
