Why RB LeGarrette Blount makes sense for Giants
The New York Giants are reportedly mutually interested in signing former New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount. While it makes sense from a financial side, what about from a schematic perspective?
- New England used two WRs 48 percent of the time lasts season; New York used two WRs a staggering 6 percent of the time. However, change could be coming for the Giants, as they signed FB/TE Rhett Ellison this offseason.
- Blount performed best in power (3.98 yards per carry) and inside zone (4.03 yards per carry) — the two run concepts the Giants used most in the 2016 season.
- Particularly on inside zone, Blount would likely have more success than the Giants did last year (3.1 yards per carry), ultimately helping to improve PFF’s 32nd-ranked cumulatively-graded rushing offense.
