- Thursday morning, Ian Rapoport reported that OLB Erik Walden will be signing. with the Titans. Entering his 10th season in the NFL, Walden will provide depth to a thin outside linebacker corps behind starters Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan. 2016 second-round pick OLB Kevin Dodd is also coming back from a foot injury that limited his playing time last season, and while the Titans expect him to be ready when training camp begins, Walden provides extra insurance.
- Walden finished last season ranked 100th out of 106 qualified edge defenders with an overall grade of 43.3. The former Indianapolis Colt brings versatility to the Titans defense, as he showed the ability to rush the passer from both the left and right sides last season. 61.3 percent of his pass-rush snaps and 18 of his pressures came from the left side. He was also able to record 13 pressures on the remaining 38.7 percent of his pass-rush snaps that came from the right side.
- While Walden’s 11 sacks last season tied Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan for the AFC South division lead, 34.4 percent of his total pressures resulted in sacks compared to a 15.1 percent league average for edge defenders. Walden’s 34.4 percent sack rate was the highest in the league among edge defenders with at least 20 pressures.
