- Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo said the team is, “absolutely,” sticking with Ereck Flowers at left tackle for Week 3.
- The Statement follows an underwhelming outing against the Detroit Lions on Monday night, where Flowers allowed three sacks and ended the game with a PFF game grade of just 47.3. Through two weeks of the 2017 season, Flowers has now allowed six pressures on 78 pass-blocking snaps, and ranks 44th of 71 qualifying tackles with a poor pass block efficiency (the PFF metric that measures pressure allowed on a per snap basis with weighting towards sacks) of 92.9.
- The former first-round pick has struggled in pass protection ever since he entered the league, and has now allowed a total of 134 quarterback pressures, the most among tackles since 2015.
- If the Giants do decide to move on from Flowers, the team will likely turn to rookie undrafted free-agent Chad Wheeler. Wheeler ended the 2017 preseason ranked 16th of 54 qualifying tackles with a pass-block efficiency of 95.7, and was named to PFF’s Preseason Week 4 – Team of the Week following a balanced performance where he not only performed well on run blocks, but he kept a completely clean slate on 35 pass-blocking snaps.
