  •  San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch announced on Twitter that rookie Solomon Thomas, the third overall pick of the 2017 draft, has officially been signed to a four-year rookie contract.
  • The 49ers are counting on Thomas to upgrade a defense that was PFF’s 30th ranked defense and 32nd against the run. In fact, the 49ers only have one defensive lineman graded above 80.0, that player is DeForest Buckner (82.3) who ranked 24th out of 125 qualified interior defenders.
  • Thomas could fill in those weaknesses as he had the highest overall grade among defensive linemen in the 2017 draft (92.7) and the highest run defense grade among interior defenders (92.2). Furthermore, Thomas ranked sixth among Power 5 defensive tackles with a 12.0 run-stop percentage.
