- The Seattle Seahawks announced on Tuesday that they had waived defensive end Dwight Freeney after just four games with the team. He had been signed less than a month ago after Seattle lost fellow pass-rusher Cliff Avril for the season.
- In his four games with Seattle, Freeney showed he still has juice as a pass-rusher. He registered three sacks, two hits and seven hurries for a pass-rush productivity score (measures pressure on per snap basis with weighting towards sacks) of 11.5, which was eighth-best among 4-3 defensive ends in Weeks 8-11. He particularly impressed against the Washington Redskins in Week 9, posting a game grade of 85.1 and a pass-rush productivity score of 21.7 on 23 pass-rush snaps.
- Freeney is coming off a solid season for the Atlanta Falcons, which, including the postseason, saw him post a pass-rush productivity score of 11.3 (eighth-best among 4-3 defensive ends).
- The decision to move on from Freeney likely has something to do with the re-emergence of Dion Jordan. The former third-overall pick (2013) had a big game in his Week 10 debut for the Seahawks against the Arizona Cardinals. His pass-rush productivity score of 25.0 was the second-best by an edge defender that week (behind only Atlanta’s Adrian Clayborn).
