  • NFL insider Ian Rapoport has reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers have activated wide receiver Sammie Coates off the physically unable to perform list. Coates has missed four weeks following a knee scope and will need to impress over the next few weeks if he is to secure his roster spot.
  • Coates played 314 offensive snaps for the Steelers in 2016, and proved to be a threat with the ball his hands. Coates was targeted 49 times, and led all Steelers receivers with 5.5 yards after the catch per reception.
  • Coates was primarily utilized as a deep threat in the Steelers’ offense last year, and led the league’s receivers in deep target percentage, with 51.0 percent of Coates’ targets coming on passes that travelled 20 or more yards in the air.
  • Despite his production after the catch, Coates struggled with drops last season. He dropped 7 of his 28 catchable targets, for a drop rate of 25.0 percent, the highest mark among the league’s receivers.
