- New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead remained sidelined at Wednesday’s practice, according to the team’s official website. Armstead is still recovering from his June shoulder surgery and the team has given no specific timetable for his return.
- It’s the second time in as many years that Armstead has missed time due to injury. In 2016, leg injuries limited him to just 397 of 1,152 possible snaps, but despite this, he still performed at a high level in pass protection, and ended the season ranked second among tackles with a pass blocking efficiency (the PFF metric that measures pressure on a per snap basis with weighting towards sacks) of 97.6.
- The Saints will be eager to get Armstead back on the field, as he has emerged as one of the best blindside-protectors in the NFL over the last few seasons. From 2012-2016, Armstead has allowed just 59 pressures on 1366 pass blocking snaps, the second lowest mark among 66 tackles with at least 1250 pass blocking snaps over that time. His pass blocking efficiency of 96.6 ranks third among the same group.
- In Armstead’s absence, rookie tackle Ryan Ramczyk will continue to fill in at left tackle, after he allowed just two pressures on his 38 pass blocking snaps in his first regular season start.
