The New Orleans Saints and free agent running back Adrian Peterson have agreed to terms on a two-year, $7 million deal to bring Peterson to New Orleans. Peterson will likely serve as back up big back option in the Saints’ offense. His pairing with Ingram is likely an attempt to keep Peterson’s carries limited to keep him healthy throughout the year.

  • Peterson has only played in 21 games in the past 3 seasons, including playoffs. Ingram has played in 41 games over that same span.
  • In Peterson’s last healthy year (2015), he forced 57 missed tackles (elusive rating of 37.5, 25th among qualified RBs) and had an overall grade of 75.0. In that same season, Ingram forced 44 missed tackles (59.4, seventh) and had an overall grade of 71.9.
  • In each off the last two seasons, Ingram has ranked in the top 10 in yards after contact per attempt. The last time Peterson did that was in 2013.
