  • Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said QB Cam Newton, who had shoulder surgery this offseason, should start throwing next week during minicamp.
  • Last season, Newton’s overall grade of 79.5 was 18th in the league among qualified quarterbacks. This is coming off his 94.0 graded MVP season from 2015, where he was second only to Tom Brady.
  • Newton loved to throw the deep ball last year, as 13.9 percent of his attempts were thrown on targets 20 yards or more downfield, which was the second highest percentage in the league. On those throws, Newton had a passer rating of 87.3, which was 14th among 27 qualified quarterbacks.
  • Newton did struggle when he was under duress, as his accuracy percentage of 52.8 was the worst in the league, and his passer rating of 44.4 was 28th out of 29 qualified quarterbacks.
