Robert McClain to be the slot CB for the Buccaneers

  • According to head coach Dirk Koetter, Robert McClain will start the season as the starting slot cornerback when the Buccaneers open the season against the Bears.
  • McClain played in Atlanta when Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Mike Smith was the Falcons’ head coach. His highest graded season came in 2012 in Atlanta, when he finished the season with an overall grade of 85.2. Since then, his highest graded season has not gone above 45.3.
  • After giving up zero touchdowns while in slot coverage in 2012, McClain gave up three touchdowns in 2013. McClain then went 2014 and Week 17 through the Super Bowl with the Panthers in 2015, without giving up a touchdown before giving up two touchdowns in the slot in 2016.
