Raiders, Melifonwu agree to terms on a deal

  • The Oakland Raiders announced on their website that they have signed safety Obi Melifonwu. Oakland drafted Melifonwu in the second round this year out of the University of Connecticut.
  • Melifonwu was the third-ranked safety on PFF's 2017 Draft Board and the 32nd overall prospect. In 2016 his 82.2 overall PFF grade ranked 20th out of 346 qualifying safeties.
  • Last season, Melifonwu only missed nine tackles in 116 attempts for a 12.9 tackling efficiency rating (attempted tackles per tackle missed) that ranked 15th out of 240 safeties that played at least 500 snaps.
