- The New England Patriots fear they have lost their top draft pick, defensive end Derek Rivers, to a season-ending knee injury, according to Field Yates. Rivers was running a kickoff coverage drill at the time, and per Mike Giardi, the injury was non-contact, and just saw his knee buckle from under him.
- Rivers is an athletic prospect out of Youngstown State, and his NFL career consists of just the 36 snaps he played in the team’s preseason opener against Jacksonville, featuring only a dozen pass-rushing plays.
- Rivers collected a hit and a defensive stop in the game, and also played on four kickoff coverage snaps, the snaps for which he was running drills when he went down.
