Patriots invite DT Ego Ferguson to minicamp

  • As a rookie in 2014, Ferguson finished the season with a 61.0 overall grade. His 69.8 grade against the run helped his overall mark as much as his 52.2 pass rushing grade hurt it. Ferguson’s run defense in 2014 was above the average score for all NFL defensive tackles, and notably above the rookie defensive tackle average.
  • Notable in his 318 rookie snaps were his three batted passes, tied for third most of all defensive tackles that year. All other defensive tackles that season with three or more batted passes did so with more playing time and an average of 589 snaps played.
  • Ferguson missed the 2016 season after being placed on injured reserve by Chicago in the preseason with a shoulder injury, and was released by the Bears on March 31. Claimed by the Packers April 3, he was again released after failing his physical. He faces long odds to make the Patriots training camp roster, but the opportunity is there.
