Panthers DT Vernon Butler injures knee Wednesday, MRI scheduled for Thursday

Carolina Panthers DT Vernon Butler left Wednesday’s preseason game with a knee injury that is believed to be just a sprain, according to Ian Rapoport. He will have an MRI on Thursday to conclusively assess the damage. He played five snaps in the team’s preseason win over Houston
Butler was the team’s first-round pick in 2016 but played just 266 regular season snaps for the Panthers as a rookie in an injury-marred campaign.
Butler notched just eight total pressures, six defensive stops and a pair of batted passes as a rookie, and needs to get on the field in year two to showcase his play at the NFL level.
