Panthers cut ties with S Tre Boston

  • The Carolina Panthers cut safety Tre Boston today, after they had signed Mike Adams in free agency earlier this offseason. The plan appears to move Kurt Coleman to free safety and insert Adams in the strong safety.
  • Boston, a fourth round pick in 2014, just had his salary doubled due to a salary escalator based on playing time.
  • Coleman has outperformed Boston in PFF’s coverage grades each of the past three seasons, including last year's 75.2 to 73.1 mark.
  • Adams’ run defense grade of 84.4 ranked 13th among safeties, while Boston’s grade of 75.4 ranked just above league average
