  • Mike Spofford of packers.com reports Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery is likely to miss this Saturday’s preseason game. Montgomery took over as the Packers lead back early last season. This will open the door for Green Bay’s three late-round running back draft picks to compete for their standing on the depth chart.
  • In limited snaps last season Montgomery proved he can be a force as the team’s lead back earning the 12th-highest grade (81.2) out of 62 qualifying running backs and his 5.14 yards after contact ranked first among running backs with 70 or more carries. However, questions remain about who will emerge as the immediate backup.
  • Jamaal Williams is the most likely candidate at this point and had taken some first-team reps even with Montgomery healthy. His 86.1 overall grade in 2016 ranked seventh among all FBS running backs. Williams forced 55 tackles last season at BYU which were the eighth-most among draft eligible running backs.
