  • New York Giants defensive end Olivier Vernon has told reporters that his MRI has come back negative. Vernon injured his ankle in his team’s Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. While he will be questionable for the Week 4 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team will be relieved that the sixth-year pass-rusher has avoided major injury.
  • Vernon was signed to a blockbuster contract prior to the 2016 season, and he performed at a very high level in his first season with the team. In 2016, Vernon played more snaps (1041) than any other edge rusher, and ended the campaign ranked 14th of 106 qualifying edge defenders with a PFF overall grade of 85.4.
  • During his time with the team, Vernon has excelled in the pass-rush. From 2016 to Week 3 of this season, Vernon has logged 696 pass-rushing snaps and produced 97 total quarterback pressures. Denver’s Von Miller and Oakland’s Khalil Mack are the only edge defenders to have more.
  • In the same time span, Vernon has been especially productive in third-down situations. Vernon has produced 37 quarterback pressures on third down, tied for the third-most among all players in the league.
