Lions second-year LB Antwione Williams making case for more playing time

  • According to Tim Twentyman of Detroitlions.com, Detroit Lions second-year LB Antwione Williams has shown much improvement during the Lions’ offseason programs and is competing for a spot as the team’s third linebacker. Williams’ currently sits behind Paul Worrilow on the depth chart.
  • In 2016, Williams saw the field on 204 defensive snaps as a rookie. On those 204 snaps, Williams graded poorly overall earning a grade of 42.3.
  • When on the field last season, Williams didn’t produce well in any particular area ranking in the bottom third in run stop percentage, pass rush productivity, tackling efficiency and coverage metrics.
  • During the preseason last year, Williams flashed some ability defending the run. He ranked third in the preseason among all linebackers with 10 defensive stops and was tied for the most run stops among inside linebackers with seven.
