  • Through five weeks of the NFL season, Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin takes the top spot as the highest graded safety in the NFL. If the season ended today, Quin’s 92.5 overall grade would be a career-best. Quin has been exceptional in coverage, earning the top coverage grade among safeties at 90.8 and also as a run defender earning the third-highest run defense grade at 87.8.
  • Against the run, Quin has been used as an in-the-box defender far more than any season during his tenure in Detroit, lining up within eight yards of line of scrimmage on 46.4 percent of snaps. On snaps with Quin lined up in the box, he leads all safeties in run-stop percentage at 13.5 percent. Only Tyvon Branch and Kam Chancellor have more run stops while lined up from the same alignment, however, both have played nearly twice the amount of run snaps as Quin has in the box.
  • In coverage, Quin has made life difficult for quarterbacks so far this year, and already has two interceptions through the first five games. That matches his total from last year, and he can now look to chase down his career-high of seven interceptions from back in the 2014 season.
