Lions QB Stafford planning to wait on Carr's contract

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that Lions QB Matthew Stafford plans to wait for Raiders QB Derek Carr to reset the quarterback market before finalizing his contract extension. It is rumored that both quarterbacks are targeting Andrew Luck money (24.5 million per season) in their new deals. Both Stafford and Carr had career years in 2016:

Overall PFF Grade

  • Stafford is coming off his best season as a pro. His PFF grade of 85.4 was the highest of his career despite suffering a severe finger injury causing a decline in play down the stretch.
  • Carr built on his very good 2015 campaign by also earning a career high grade at 87.0 which ranked sixth in the NFL.

Passing Under Pressure

  • Stafford had the seventh highest passer rating when under pressure in 2016 at 78.2. His adjusted accuracy percentage on throws under pressure was 66.9 which ranked ninth.
  • Carr had a passer rating of 70.0 on throws under pressure which ranked 14th in 2016. His adjusted accuracy percentage on throws under pressure was 64.6 which also ranked 14th.

Adjusted Completion Percentage

  • In 2016 Stafford ranked ninth in adjusted completion percentage at 76.1.
  • Derek Carr ranked 17th in adjusted completion percentage at 73.9.
  • Carr (37) and Stafford (36) ranked first and second, respectively, in passes dropped by their intended receivers. Carr lost the second most yards in air via drops at 318 and Stafford lost the third most at 304 yards.
