  • Selecting TE Michael Roberts in the fourth round of the 2017 draft didn’t stop the Detroit Lions from picking up Eric Ebron’s fifth-year option Tuesday.
  • In 2016, Ebron spent most of his time on the field as an inline tight end (68 percent of snaps), but with the addition of Roberts, he could see more time as the “move TE” in two-TE sets, split out wide or in the slot.
  • Ebron’s 72.3 receiving grade in 2016 ranked 19th among TEs. His 29.6 run-block grade was the worst among qualifying TEs. Since entering the league in 2014, his run-block grade has regressed each season while his receiving grade has improved.
  • Ebron has struggled with drops so far in his career and in 2016 ranked 20th out of 22 qualifying TEs in drop rate at 10.29. He dropped 7 of 68 catchable targets.
