  • Michael Rothstein reports the Detroit Lions will use Golden Tate more in the slot this upcoming season. Tate played primarily on the outside last season but the departure of Anquan Boldin and his 786 2016 slot snaps has created a need that the team has to fill.
  • During Tate’s first two seasons in Detroit he ran a majority of his routes from the slot before having is role changed in 2016 due to the singing of Boldin. Tate’s percentage of routes run in the slot went from 58.6 percent in 2014, 55.9 in 2015, down to just 26.9 in 2016.
  • Tate ranked in the top-10 in receptions and yards from the slot in both 2014 and 2015. Since 2014, Tate ranks eight in targets (179) and receptions (132) from the slot. Among receivers with at least 200 routes run from the slot since 2014 Tate ranks 13th in yards per route run at 1.63.
