Joe Mixon's skills in the passing game should keep him on the field
- ESPN Bengals reporter Katherine Terrell believes Cincinnati Bengals second-round RB Joe Mixon “will likely get a heavy dose of playing time right away” and will be used “in a variety of ways.”
- Pass protection can take a rookie back off the field, and Mixon was only asked to block on 19.4 percent (48 of 248) of passing snaps played at Oklahoma in 2016.
- However, this is likely only because Mixon was such a weapon in the receiving game, leading the 2017 RB draft class in yards per route run (2.83 YPPR).
- When asked to block, Mixon allowed only a single hurry on 48 pass-block snaps (98.4 percent pass-block efficiency), seventh among draft eligible RBs, well above the three drafted before him.
