Jets hoping to get more out of LB Mauldin

  • Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports that New York Jets linebacker coach Kevin Greene “has a plan to get more out of (LB Lorenzo) Mauldin,” including becoming more than a “finesse” player. Mauldin has played in a reserve pass-rush role each of his first two seasons on the edge. Of his 615 total snaps 450 of them have been rushing the quarterback.
  • Mauldin has not performed near the level the Jets were hoping when they selected him in the third round. His 2016 grade of just 49.9 ranked just 82nd out of 109 eligible edge defenders. His PRP of 7.8 ranked 43rd out of 57 3-4 outside linebackers that played at least 145 passing snaps.
  • Greene and Mauldin both talked about becoming less reliant on finesse and athleticism. In 2016 of Mauldin’s 24 total pressures, just three came via the bullrush.
