- ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars are giving linebacker Telvin Smith a 4 year, $50 million contract extension.
- Through seven games of the 2017 season, Smith has participated in 99 percent of the Jaguars defensive snaps, and is playing at an elite level with his 2017 overall grade of 90.9 ranking third among all linebackers.
- In his four years in the league, Smith has demonstrated good ability against the run, recording a league-high 41 run stops in 2016, a category he is also currently leading in 2017 with 19. He has ranked in the top 10 among 4-3 outside linebackers every season with regard to run stop percentage.
- Smith has also shown ability when rushing the passer, his pass-rush productivity mark of 25.0 in 2014 ranked first among 32 qualifying linebackers. He ranked third in this category in 2016 with a pass-rush productivity total of 14.4.
