  • When PFF released our list of the best players of the 2017 season, Jacksonville Jaguars edge defender Calais Campbell paid respect to Aaron Donald, but said he was coming for his No. 1 spot. Campbell’s best season was in 2016, when he ended with an overall grade of 93.0, and at 31 years of age, that seemed optimistic, but he opened the 2017 season as if he means to fulfil that promise.
  • Against the Texans Sunday, Campbell sacked the QB five times (two were split on the NFL score card), five defensive stops, and even more additional pressure as the Jaguars forced one Texans QB out of the game and set about ruining the Sunday of his backup.
  • Campbell had spent his career largely playing inside as a 3-4 defensive end, typically aligning more than any other spot at 3-technique (on the outside shoulder of a guard), but in Jacksonville in Week 1 he spent 60.3 percent of his snaps outside the tackle as more of an edge defender.
