- In an interview on Packers.com, Mike McCarthy compared Green Bay fourth-round pick Josh Jones to his recently departed free agent defensive back Micah Hyde as players who can play multiple positions in the secondary.
- In 2016, Green Bay had to use Hyde primarily as a slot cornerback, but in previous years, he had a much more varied role, moving around the secondary playing both deep safety and up in the box.
- Jones was used similarly at NC State this past year, lining up at both safety positions and at both outside and slot cornerback. He allowed a passer rating of only 50.0 against him in coverage for no touchdowns to go with three interceptions and six pass breakups.
- Looking at snap distributions, it’s easy to see how McCarthy envisions Jones filling Hyde’s shoes in Green Bay.
