  • According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, the New England Patriots free-agent signing Mike Gillislee took the first goal-line carry of Patriots training camp. Reiss reports that Gillislee is the top candidate to take over LeGarrette Blount’s old role in New England’s backfield.
  • Gilislee played a career-high 283 snaps for the Buffalo Bills in 2016. He ended the season with a PFF overall grade of 80.9 ranked 13th of 61 qualifying running backs. Gilislee forced 16 missed tackles on 101 rush attempts in 2016, and his elusive rating of 57.5 ranked ninth of 53 backs with at least 80 carries.
  • In 2016, Gilislee was given the ball on 11 of the Bills’ 28 carries inside their opponent’s 5-yard line. He found the end zone on seven of those carries, for a touchdown percentage of 63.6 percent, the highest mark among the league’s backs with at least 10 carries inside the opponent’s 5-yard line.
