Free agent CB Justin Gilbert gets 4-game suspension

  • Free agent CB Justin Gilbert has been suspended four games for a reported violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy.
  • The former eighth-overall pick played just 12 snaps last season, nine of which were in coverage. Only 16 NFL corners played fewer coverage snaps.
  • His percentage of possible snaps played has continued to fall in his career. It has dropped from 38.5 to 18.7 to 2016’s career low 5.7.
  • Gilbert played the most in his rookie year, playing 38.5 percent of the team’s snaps and earning a 70.5 PFF grade.
  • In his rookie year, Gilbert was targeted once every 5.3 snaps in coverage, which ranked 22nd out of 116 corners. On those targets his QB rating against was 83.6, 41st-best.
