Free agent CB Justin Gilbert has been suspended four games for a reported violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy.
The former eighth-overall pick played just 12 snaps last season, nine of which were in coverage. Only 16 NFL corners played fewer coverage snaps.
His percentage of possible snaps played has continued to fall in his career. It has dropped from 38.5 to 18.7 to 2016’s career low 5.7.
Gilbert played the most in his rookie year, playing 38.5 percent of the team’s snaps and earning a 70.5 PFF grade.
In his rookie year, Gilbert was targeted once every 5.3 snaps in coverage, which ranked 22nd out of 116 corners. On those targets his QB rating against was 83.6, 41st-best.
