After turning 2017 fifth-round pick Damontae Kazee into a playmaking free safety that earned top-10 marks as a second-year player in the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons’ brass is doubling down on their minimal investment and moving Kazee into a primary slot cornerback role – one of the NFL’s most valuable defensive positions.
With veteran Brian Poole off the roster, Kazee is already taking reps as Atlanta’s first-team slot cornerback, per Jason Butt of The Athletic, to prepare for the position change in 2019. In his two years in the NFL, Kazee has played 83.7% of his defensive snaps at free safety and just 3.8% (45 total) at slot cornerback.
