Cowboys, Raiders rise into top 4 of PFF's NFL Week 10 Power Rankings

Week 9 of the NFL season has come and gone, and with it, a new week’s worth of grades are in the Pro Football Focus database.

PFF’s Power Rankings are based off of Senior Analyst Sam Monson’s ordering of all 32 NFL teams, offenses, and defenses. He uses PFF’s overall cumulative grades as a starting point, and makes necessary subjective adjustments to account for things that aren’t captured in the grading system, such as injuries.

The PFF Power Rankings will be updated every Tuesday morning during the NFL season—view the latest edition entering Week 10 here.

NFL Power Rankings

With a dominant win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 9, the Dallas Cowboys have moved just behind the New England Patriots (on bye this past week) in the Pro Football Focus NFL Power Rankings. Led by the incredible rookie performances of Ezekiel Elliott—PFF's midseason Rookie of the Year choice—and Dak Prescott, Dallas' offense is ranked third overall this season, just behind the Atlanta and Oakland.

Truly surprising, however, has been the performance of the Cowboys' defense, ranked 15th in the league. Through Week 9, Dallas owns the highest team pass-coverage grade; the Cowboys' pass-rushing grade, however, leaves something to be desired (currently ranked 26th).

Not far behind the Cowboys are the rising Oakland Raiders. Derek Carr, Amari Cooper, and Michael Crabtree have been impressive this season, but it's the recent uptick in defensive performance that has truly moved this team forward. Against the Broncos in Week 9, Khalil Mack again gave us a glimpse of the dominant edge defender we saw over the entirety of the 2015 season. Through the last two weeks, Mack has recorded 21 QB pressures, more than any other NFL defender in that span.

Sliding down the list this week after a home loss to the Indianapolis Colts are the Green Bay Packers. Dropping from No. 9 overall to No. 13, Aaron Rodgers has recorded four game grades this season below 77.0 (two below 37.0, in fact). Against the Colts, his 64.0 mark stood as his third-lowest game grade of the year. The Packers' offense still retains a top-10 ranking this season, largely due to the play of the team's offensive line, but the defense now sits at No. 16 in the league entering Week 10.
